We are currently hiring for the following positions:

UI Programmer


The UI Programmer will be responsible for implementing game user interface systems in game code as well as game script.  Responsibilities include working closely with game artists and systems designers to produce functional, intuitive and visually appealing display elements and front end screens.  The ideal candidate is familiar with a wide variety of game interfaces and has a passion for improving player experience.
 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years programming experience using C++, preferably using MS VC++
  • Familiarity with the STL
  • Familiarity with Lua or other similar scripting languages
  • Familiarity with user-modifiable interfaces
  • Familiarity with the localization process and writing localize-friendly code
  • Familiarity with MFC or similar framework is a plus
  • Desire/ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with teammates minimum 1 shipped titles or equivalent experience
 Pluses:
  • Previous MMO development experience or avid MMO gaming experience desirable

Character Artist


Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a talented Character Artist.
 Responsibilities:
This person will be responsible for creating low and hi res models, painting highly-stylized "hand" painted texture maps, creating normal and specularity maps,  and UV mapping for characters.  This person will create a wide variety of creatures including bipeds, quadrapeds, organic, non-organic, etc.  For this position, we are more interested in creativity and passion than years of experience.
 Qualifications:
  • Solid familiarity with significant 3D content creation tools (Maya, 3DSMax, Softimage XSI), Photoshop and other core tools.
  • Strong knowledge of Zbrush or Mudbox
  • Must be able to work within an established art style
  • Strong traditional and digital art skills
  • Excellent communication and team skills
  • Self motivated, with a strong work ethic
  • A passion for creating and playing video games
 Pluses:
  •  Previous game development experience

Game System Programmer


Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a talented Game System Programmer to work on upcoming PC MMO at their Orange County, CA studio. 

This individual will be primarily responsible for architecting, building, testing and documenting major gameplay systems and will need to communicate effectively with artists and designers.  Problem solving skills and independent thinking are the hallmarks of the ideal candidate.
 Requirements:
  • Solid familiarity with significant 3D content creation tools (Maya, 3DSMax, Softimage XSI), Photoshop and other core tools
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years programming experience using C++, preferably using MS VC++
  • Familiarity with client/server programming
  • Desire/ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with teammates

Quest Designer


Carbine Studios, in Aliso Viejo, California based software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a Quest Designer to create quests that represent and enhance our game’s creative vision and ensure sure they are implemented with the highest level of quality. 
Responsibilities:
  • Participates in the planning, design, and implementation of in-game quests, including writing text, awning, and scripting
  • Works with the Lead Quest Designer to develop and create individual quests and overarching quest lines
  • Attends and participates in design meetings
  • Works within budget constraints and milestone deadlines to deliver fun game play for team-wide play tests
  • Plays through and provides feedback on all quest elements in the game
  • Works with a team of designers to collaborate on developing distinct game zones
 Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience working in a design role
  • Must have shipped at least one AAA quality product working in a design capacity
  • Must have experience in RPG and/or Action Adventure genres
  • MMO experience highly desired: MMO knowledge essential
  • Strong passion for games and excellent knowledge of video games, particularly RPGs
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Strong decision-making and organizational skills
  • Ability to learn and use proprietary editor and tools to make quests in game 
 Preferred:
  • Love of pen and paper RPGs, board games and comic books
  • Avid MMO player

Senior Quest Designer


Carbine Studios, in Aliso Viejo, California based software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a Senior Quest Designer to create quests that represent and enhance our game’s creative vision and ensure sure they are implemented with the highest level of quality.
Primary Responsibilities:
  •  Participates in the planning the design of all in-game quests, authoring and maintaining design documents, gathering reference and working with the other leads on the team to establish priorities for quest development
  • Works with the System Design Director to understand and provide feedback on the creative vision for all features and systems in the game
  •  Oversees creation of the quest design templates and quest design documents, to ensuring that all documentation is consistent and thorough
  •  Reviews and provides feedback on all quest elements in the game
  •  Trains and mentors the quest design team
Job Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience working in a design role
  • Must have shipped at least one AAA quality product working in a design capacity
  • Must have experience in RPG and/or Action Adventure general MMO experience highly desired: MMO knowledge essential

Creature Spawner


Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a talented Creature Spawner to work on an upcoming PC MMO in their Orange County, CA development studio to enhance the gameplay experience through the placement of creatures and the development of compelling encounters.

Responsibilities:
  • Places creatures in the game environment to enhance the gameplay experience, both from a combat perspective and a visual perspective
  • Uses proprietary tools to build interesting encounters that enhance standard playspaces—such as creature patrols and pull puzzles
  • Manages the process of adding creatures to existing content, taking into account both system design and creative design philosophies
  • Creation and maintenance of design documents as they pertain to creature spawns
Requirements:
  • Proficiency with Photoshop and Excel
  • Ability to learn and use proprietary world editor and scripting language
  • MMO/RPG development experience highly desired: MMO knowledge essential
  • Strong passion for games and excellent knowledge of video games, particularly RPGs and MMOs
  • Strong decision-making and organizational skills

Effects Artist


Carbine Studios is looking for an Effects Artist. Candidates will be responsible for creating eye popping in-game visuals that range from character and creature abilities to environmental effects. For this position, we are more interested in creativity and passion than years of experience.
 
Requirements:
  • A passion for visual effects, creating and playing games
  • Knowledgeable in creating real-time particle effects, for in-game assets
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of animation
  • Strong traditional and digital art skills
  • Ability to create hand-drawn flipbook style effects and textures
  • Solid familiarity with 3D and 2D packages (ie. Maya, Softimage XSI, Photoshop)
  • Must be able to work within an established art style
  • Excellent communication and team skills
  • Self motivated, with strong work ethic
