Environmental Texture Artist


Carbine Studios is looking for an Environmental Texture Artist to create highly-stylized, “hand” painted texture maps, for game terrain.  The Environmental Texture Artist will be responsible for painting a wide variety of texture types for a number of climates including; deserts, forests, grasslands and other fantastic landscapes.  In addition this position involves the creation of 3D terrain detail XSI. Candidates must have a strong understanding of color, specularity, normal and height maps, and must have experience in texture layout and UV Mapping.  For this position, we are more interested in creativity and passion than years of experience.

Requirements

  • Solid familiarity with significant 3D content creation tools (Maya, 3DSMax, Softimage XSI, Photoshop and other core tools)
  • Must be able to work within an established art style
  • Strong traditional and digital art skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Self motivated with a strong work ethic
  • A passion for creating and playing video games

Pluses

  • Zbrush and Mudbox knowledge

QA Tester


Carbine Studios is looking for a quality assurance tester with a passion for online role-playing games to join our QA team. Candidates must have extensive experience playing and testing games across a wide variety of genres, be resourceful in an environment of continually changing constraints, and be driven by a strong desire to learn and improve the games they work on.

**Only local candidates will be considered at this time.**

Responsibilties:

  • Work with designers and engineers to help them test, polish, and iterate
  • Work with the Community by gathering information from the forums and putting bugs into the database
  • Assist with the development of and maintenance of the Internal and External Bug Databases
  • Ensure game meets our internal/external quality goals    

Requirements:

Game System Programmer


Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a talented Game System Programmer to work on upcoming PC MMO at their Orange County, CA studio. 

This individual will be primarily responsible for designing, building, testing and documenting major gameplay systems and will need to communicate effectively with artists and designers.  Problem solving skills and independent thinking are the hallmarks of the ideal candidate.

Requirements:

  • Solid familiarity with significant 3D content creation tools (Maya, 3DSMax, Softimage XSI), Photoshop and other core tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years programming experience using C++, preferably using MS VC++
  • Familiarity with client/server programming
  • Familiarity with STL
  • Familiarity with SQL and database systems
  • Desire/ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with teammates

Texture Artist


Carbine Studios is looking for a Texture Artist. Sr. Sound Designer

  • Excellent sound design skills
  • 4 years professional experience as a sound designer (either game industry or other media)

World Artist


Carbine Studios is looking for passionate individuals to craft landscapes for an upcoming next generation MMO.  Candidates must have extensive game playing experience across a wide variety of game genres, and be able to build beautiful game worlds using our in-house editing tools. The ability to communicate effectively and collaborate successfully with game designers, art directors, producers, concept artist, and environment artists is essential.

Level Designer


Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a talented Level Designer to work on an upcoming PC MMO. This individual will be responsible for representing and enhancing our game’s creative vision through the compelling design of its environments.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain detailed layouts of game spaces
  • Create pre-viz maps for a variety of PvE and PvP zone types, including heights, textures and props
  • Work with designers and artists to manage creature and NPC populations
  • Create and maintain pre-viz models for dungeons and structures
  • Write and maintain scripts for ambient creature behavior and world events

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years professional level design experience
  • Must have shipped at least one AAA quality product working as a level designer
  • Proficiency with a major 3D modeling package (XSI, Maya or 3DS Max preferred), Photoshop and Excel
  • Experience with a major programming or game-scripting language (C++ preferred)
  • Ability to learn and use proprietary world editor and scripting language
  • MMO/RPG development experience highly desired: MMO knowledge essential

Quest Designer


Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is looking for a candidate who can create high-quality quest content for an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game.

Requirements

  • Must have shipped at least one AAA quality product working in a design capacity 
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience working in a quest design role (preferably on an MMORPG) 
  • Strong writing, communication, decision-making, and organizational skills
  • Ability to create compelling content that is consistent with the game story and systems, while maintaining an understanding of both the capabilities and limitations of the game engine
  • Ability to learn and utilize proprietary development tools

Pluses

  • Broad knowledge of various genres and games and an ability to critically analyze them from a design perspective

Associate Producer


Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a talented Associate Producer with a passion for online games to work on an upcoming PC MMO in their Orange County, CA development studio.

This individual will work closely with the Art Director and Project Management team to maintain schedules, prioritize tasks, and coordinate resources.   Additional responsibilities will include; assisting in milestone planning, identifying dependencies and possible workflow blockages, and facilitating communication between internal departments.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Art Director and Art Team Leads to monitor and maintain project schedules
  • Monitor and refine the development pipelines to increase production efficiency and quality
  • Facilitate communication of the status of assets and features, and identification any obstacles or issues that need attention
  • Monitor change requests and determine when significant changes to task scope have occurred
  • Reports regularly to the Art Director and Project Producer
  • Manage the dependencies and development process with core studio services including Design, Audio, Programming, and QA

Requirements

  • At least 2 – 4 years of experience in a production environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel in Art, Design, Programming and Management teams
  • Ability to maintain project schedules and milestone documentation, monitoring the progress of department milestones and individual tasks against those schedules
  • Excellent organization skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work effectively with a large amount of ambiguity and adapt easily to change

Lead 3D Artist


Carbine Studios is looking for a Lead 3D Artist to join our growing team of MMO developers. The Lead 3D Artist to be responsible for leading and organizing a team focused on modeling and painting highly-stylized 3D models of objects in the game world.  The Lead 3D Artist will create a wide variety of constructed and organic objects, ranging from large starships to trees, bushes, and rock formations.  For this position, we are interested in candidates with high levels of creativity, passion for making great content, and strong management and organizational skills.  Successful candidates will have 4+ years of experience on several shipped titles.

Requirements

  • Solid familiarity with significant 3D content creation tools (Maya, 3DSMax, Softimage XSI, Photoshop and other core tools)
  • Must be able to work within an established art style and teach that style to other artists
  • Strong traditional and digital art skills
  • Excellent communication and team skills
  • Self motivated, with a strong work ethic
  • 4+ years experience in the game industry as a Senior or Lead Artist
  • At least 2 shipped titles
  • The ability to set the bar for quality and communicate it to others
  • A passion for creating and playing video games
  • Knowledge of the asset production needs for a Massively Multiplayer Online game
