This individual will be primarily responsible for designing, building, testing and documenting major game systems and will need to communicate effectively with artists and designers.Problem solving skills and independent thinking are the hallmark of the ideal candidate.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years programming experience using C++, preferably using MS VC++
- 3+ years experience with DirectX-enabled PC games
- Familiarity with client/server programming
- Familiarity with the STL
- Desire/ability to work in a team environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with teammates
- Minimum 2 shipped titles or equivalent experience
- Previous MMO development experience or avid MMO gaming experience desirable

Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking Staff Systems Designer candidates with strong design sense and a demonstrated ability on the creation, implementation, and tuning of compelling game systems for an upcoming MMO.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of one of the following game systems and drive the design and implementation to the smallest detail:
- Combat/Balance/PvP
- This designer should be very familiar with excel and scripting languages and will be expected to maintain any sort of combat model that is created.
- NPC
- This designer implements and balances all of the NPC abilities, traits, and clusters.
- Trade Skills
- This designer owns crafting, harvesting, and the recipes and mini-games that are used.
- Itemization, Economy, and Vendors, loot tables
- They will design and implement all the items, design and implement all the loot tables, fill all the vendors, and tune the economy.
- Work with the Senior Designers to understand and provide feedback on the creative vision for all features and systems in the game.
- Ensure that all system designs are maintained and updated on a regular basis to reflect ongoing changes.
- Regularly give formal presentations to leads supporting their designs.
- Implement all of the systems using the tools that are available.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with fantasy and science fiction literature, pen and paper role-playing, CRPGs and MMOs is a must.
- Experience with modern day MMO’s and their subsystems including item progression, item balance, trade skill systems, combat systems and class balance.
- Ability to create innovative, understand and balance game systems and mechanics
- Excellent math skills
Preferred:
- Previous experience doing system design work for computer or paper RPGs
- At least 1 shipped AAA title

Responsibilities:
- The Technical Animator will be primarily responsible for creating and rigging character animation rigs.
- These rigs include humans and fantasy creatures, many with multiple legs, arms, tails, and wings.
- In addition to characters, this position will be responsible for painting deformation weights on character outfits and animating mechanical and organic props.
Qualifications:
- Experience with character rigging and weight painting
- Strong understanding of anatomy and skeletal structure
- Ability to create and edit basic prop animations
- Must be detail oriented
- Must possess excellent communication and team skills

- Reviews and provides feedback on systems and balance game.
Qualifications:
- Experience shipping games in a system design capacity
- Familiarity fantasy and science fiction literature, pen and paper role-playing, CRPGs and MMOs is a must.
- Passion for and broad knowledge of various genres and games and an ability to critically analyze them
- Ability to create innovative game systems and mechanics
- Ability to understand and balance complex game systems
- Ability to clearly and concisely define game areas and feature sets
- Willingness to take the initiative to learn new skills, and contribute wherever needed in the product development process
- Ability to work closely with artists and other designers and be responsive to feedback
- Excellent math skills
- 3 years professional design experience
